Karma Yacht Sales would like to congratulate TEAM TALLGRASS a 2007 Beneteau First 10R skippered by owner Miles Lowry for their finish in the 99th running of Chicago Yacht Club’s Race to Mackinac. TALLGRASS finished 8th Overall (with a Corrected time of 56:28:02 and an elapsed time of 63:24:31) in the Mackinac Trophy Division and 3rd place in ORR Section 6.

TALLGRASS was the first boat to cross the line in their section and corrected to Second, however their finish was protested by the race committee based on their inspection results for a section finish of 3rd. The 22 boat Section 6 was represented by medley of boats ranging from a Tripp 33 to a C&C110 and J35 amongst many others. Mr. Lowry and crew were ecstatic with their finish as the momentum with the new boat is building since having taken delivery earlier this year. He previously campaigned a J30- and is excited at the potential of the new First 10R.

The Race to Mackinac is the longest running annual freshwater sailing race in the world. At 333 statute miles long (289.4 NM), 300 boats raced from Monroe Lighthouse in Chicago to Round Island Lighthouse on Mackinac Island, Michigan. The 2007 event was particularly remarkable as it went down in the history books as the slowest race in 30 years. The race started in winds ranging from 20-25 knots and the fleet saw those winds diminish to ‘very light’ and ‘variable’ as the race progressed.
